Dr. George Blackburn is the S. Daniel Abraham Associate Professor of Nutrition, Associate Director of the Division of Nutrition, at Harvard Medical School. He is the, Chief of the Nutrition/Metabolism Laboratory, and Director of the Center for the Study of Nutrition Medicine, which are affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Barbara Johnston Fletcher is currently Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, College of Health, University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida. As a clinician and researcher in the field of cardiovascular nursing, she has conducted seminal studies on activity for cardiac patients which evolved into a steady trajectory of scholarly inquiry into exercise behaviors and outcomes for different patient populations. She has led multidisciplinary research projects as a co-principal investigator of federally funded studies addressing cardiovascular risk factors.
Barbara has consistently disseminated her expertise and research through over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, and she has been the lead author on most. Her leadership in the American Heart Association's Council on Cardiovascular Nursing led directly to innovative health policy activities, increased visibility for nursing science, and expanded the scope of nursing's influence in important patient care and research issues. Her innovative and creative contributions to nursing, health care, and the public are exemplary.

Beverages and Bone Health: Sorting Out the Science
Dr. Heaney is John A. Creighton University Professor and Professor of Medicine at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. A recognized expert in the field of osteoporosis, vitamin D and calcium physiology, he has worked for more than 50 years in the study of osteoporosis and bone physiology. Dr. Heaney was a member of the Panel on Calcium and Related Nutrients involved in the development of the IOM's Dietary Reference Intakes for these nutrients, and his laboratory has done bioavailability testing for many of the major food companies in North America. Dr. Heaney has received many honors and awards and is a member of numerous professional organizations as well as being published widely in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Bernadene A. Magnuson received her BSc in Food science and nutrition and MSc in Toxicology from the University of Saskatchewan, and her PhD in Food and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Manitoba in Canada. Following post-doctoral studies in cancer research, she joined the Department of Food Science and Toxicology at the University of Idaho where she conducted studies on dietary components and colon cancer, and provided educational programs on food and pesticide toxicology issues.
She is currently on faculty at the University of Maryland, where she teaches courses on food science and food toxicology and conducts research on food toxicology, and diet and cancer prevention. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, abstracts and professional articles and is on the editorial board of two journals and is an active member of various committees of the Institute of Food Technologists and the Society of Toxicology. Dr. Magnuson was the lead author of an expert review of the safety of aspartame entitled Aspartame: A Safety Evaluation Based on Current Use Levels, Regulations, and Toxicological and Epidemiological Studies published in Critical Reviews of Toxicology (37:629–727, 2007).
